  • Simple Beneficiary designations in retirement and insurance plans

  • Payable on Death (POD) designations to CHICO on checking or savings accounts

Gifts to Endowment Now

There are many gift options that can benefit CHICO immediately and provide you the opportunity to contribute to the building of reserves and endowment to support programs and services for future generations.

Gifts of Cash, Stocks or Mutual Funds

  • Gift benefits CHICO now and is recognized immediately 

  • Can support the building of reserves and endowment today

  • Simple to make

  • Charitable income tax deduction

  • Avoidance of capital gains on appreciation

IRA Qualified Charitable Distributions

  • Direct transfer from your IRA to TBCF, if 70 ½ years old

  • Can gift up to $100,000 per individual, annually from IRA

  • Can be used to satisfy your required minimum distribution

  • May be excluded from gross income for tax purposes

Gifts of Real Estate

  • An outright gift of all or a portion of property

  • Avoidance of capital gains on sale

  • Eliminate the inconvenience of marketing and selling property yourself

  • Charitable income tax deduction

Charitable Lead Trust

  • Income to CHICO for a designated period of time

  • Trust principal then reverts to you or other beneficiaries

Planned Gifts for the Future

Through careful estate planning, you can provide gifts that will benefit the Channel Islands Chamber Orchestra in the future. These planned gifts offer creative and flexible strategies for you to pursue your charitable and family financial goals. Among the benefits, you may receive substantial tax savings and possible lifetime income for yourself and/or your spouse. However, the greatest benefit of a planned gift will be in knowing that you are supporting a musical legacy for your community.

Bequest

  • Created in will or living trust

  • Unlimited charitable estate tax deduction

  • Continued use of assets during your lifetime

  • Flexibility to change the amount of bequest at any time

  • Minimum amount:  None

Pay/Transfer on Death Gifts (POD,TOD)

  • The easiest way to leave a gift with no money out of pocket now

  • Name CHICO as the beneficiary of your checking or investment account

  • Avoids probate on assets and passes directly to charity

Retirement Plans and Insurance

  • CHICO is named as the full or partial beneficiary of your IRA, 401(k), 403(b), or life insurance policy

  • Avoids significant income tax burden to heirs

  • Possible federal and state estate tax savings

  • Flexibility to change benefit amount at any time

  • Minimum amount: None

Charitable Gift Annuity (CGA)

  • Contribute cash or securities now and receive fixed annual income for life for you and your spouse

  • Annuity payout rates are determined by the age of the beneficiary(ies)

  • Rates are generally much higher than prevailing CD rates, e.g. currently 7% for a single 80-year old

Charitable Remainder Trust (CRT)

  • Receive payments for life or term of years

  • Take a charitable Income tax deduction now and 5 years forward

  • Avoid immediate capital gains tax on the appreciation

  • Diversify your investment portfolio

  • Possible federal and state estate tax savings

  • Minimum gift: (non-real estate $100,000)

  • Minimum gift: (real estate $150,000)

Important note: Legacy gifts like those mentioned above are called “planned giving,” because they require careful financial planning for yourself and your family on how you wish to distribute your assets after you are gone.
