Annual Youth Concerts

Channel Islands Chamber Orchestra provides a high quality venue for talented young performers in Ventura County. CHICO invites local youths, 21 years or younger, to audition to perform a solo with the orchestra.

In January 2019, Youth Soloist Stephen Saw performed Bruch Violin Concerto in G Minor (1st mvt); Noah Laber performed Marcello Oboe Concerto in C minor (2nd mvt); and David Shiang performed Mendelssohn Piano Concerto in G minor (1st mvt). Daniel Newman-Lessler guest conducted.

In January 2017, Peter Glass performed J.S. Bach’s  Piano concerto in A Major; Rebecca Beerstein performed Bruch’s Violin concerto No.1 in G minor; Angela Marvin performed Lalo’s Cello concerto in D minor and Ashley Wong and Celena Hu performed Krommer’s  Concerto for 2 clarinets in Eb Major.

In January 2016, Kaytlyn Becker performed Violin Concerto No. 1 in A Minor by Johann Sebastian Bach and Alexa Constantine performed the Piano Concerto Op. 16 in A Minor by Edvard Grieg.

In January 2015, David Gatchel performed the first movement of Prokokiev’s Piano Concerto No. 3, Madeline Offerman performed the first movement of Kabalevsky’s Cello Concerto No. 1, Soprano Haley Slade sang Offenbach’s Doll’s Aria and Gershwin’s Summertime and Baritone Adam Hedelund performed Gluck’s Che faro senza Euridice from Orpheus and Schubert’s Ave Maria.

In January 2014, Alec Allee-Munoz performed Grieg A minor Piano Concerto (1st movement), Holly Redford performed Bach Violin Concerto in A minor (3rd movement) and Catherine Ruan performed Beethoven Romance No. 2.

In January 2013, pianist Joyce Seok, soprano Emma Vielbig and cellist Cole Syverson performed (Strauss, Mozart, Bach, Puccini, Saint-Saëns)

In January 2011, pianists David Satchel  and Alexa Constantine, and violinist Edaan Byle performed Chopin, Kabalevsky & Dvorak.

In November 2010, violinist Will Duke, pianist Joseph Vielbig and tenor Brian Ybarra performed (Mozart, Schubert, di Cupua)
